Clemson Tigers Mascot History:

No one is exactly sure how the "Tiger" became Clemson University's mascot. Many stories relate back to the purple and orange striped jerseys the football team wore. The nickname caught on nonetheless and Clemson's mascot "Mr. Tiger", has been entertaining fans for over 37 years. In 1955, the man in stripes made his first appearance on the sidelines in Clemson's Death Valley Stadium. Today, "Mr. Tiger" has stuck with Clemson athletics and represents the ideals, traditions, and standards that Clemson University upholds.
